Avoiding Social Media Fatigue

Interesting post by Ray Wang on Social Media Fatigue.  He observes that most early adopters of social media have personal (facebook, google +), corporate (Yammer, Chatter) professional (LinkedIn) and Twitter pages.  These users have overwhelmed at the thought of adding more networks to this mix and are starting to rationalize their usage by limiting and even eliminating networks to "combat overload and social fatigue.  Going forward, users will move towards desensitization when the advertisers and companies abuse the channel by spamming users with an unwanted deluge of irrelevant offers."

Here are some questions that should be asked that will uncover whether help is needed with the technology part of the business:
  1. Is your technology working for you or are you working for the technology?
  2. Is there a hardware replacement plan or do you replace things when they break?
  3. How well integrated is all of your software?
  4. When did you last uncover new functionality in your technology?
