Pod Pack Doubles Volume of Business with IQMS

Established in 1996, Pod Pack partners with roasters, distributors, and brokers to identify and provide solutions in the single-serve beverage market. From its start in a 400-square-foot facility located in New Orleans, Pod Pack has expanded to operate in 45,000 square feet in Baton Rouge.

At the time, the manufacturer relied on fully manual processes to manage its operations, but it soon became clear that this strategy would not scale to meet the company’s future plans. A review of enterprise resource planning ERP solutions led Pod Pack to select the DELMIAWORKS (formerly IQMS) manufacturing ERP system. The DELMIAWORKS manufacturing ERP system provides Pod Pack the real-time insights and automated processes required to ensure quality and compliance, maximize productivity, and provide a superior customer experience.

Because Pod Pack serves the food and beverage (F&B) industry, quality and regulatory compliance are top priorities. The manufacturer is Safe Quality Food (SQF) certified, kosher certified, and participates in regular U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reviews. Beyond following regulatory rules and opening up to audits from government agencies, Pod Pack also has to comply with requirements and audits from customers.

The traceability features that help Pod Pack manage regulatory audits also helps it to manage inventory. The manufacturer handles consignment products where customers give Pod Pack their coffee and entrust the company to process it correctly. Using DELMIAWORKS, everything that comes in the door gets a label and barcode, which is tracked like a license plate throughout the facility. As a result, Pod Pack managers can tell a customer where anything is within the facility at any time.

“When we tracked inventory using Excel spreadsheets, it would take weeks to reconcile each and every month,” recalled Marion Gray, Pod Pack CFO. “Now we can tell you down to the last hour what's in our inventory, and watch all that inventory movement. It's just light years ahead of where we were before, and it is so much easier to manage what we do day in, day out.”

Return on Investment:
  • Doubled the volume of business without doubling headcount
  • Recall and traceability reports are generated in minutes
  • Hourly inventory updates
  • Financial closings reduced from 25 days to 3 days
  • Weekly reports on manufacturing production has improved employee performance.

Seacore Seafood Experiences Unmatched Growth With VAI

Established in 1987, Seacore Seafood is Canada’s leading importer, distributor and custom processor of fresh and frozen fish, seafood and live lobsters. Recognized as one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies, Seacore capitalized on its inward and outbound logistics to make its consumer brand, OceanPrime, widely available across North America while managing more than 5,000 fresh and frozen items in inventory.

To keep up with the growing demand for its products from three distinct businesses and channels, Seacore had to automate core business functions including inventory management, accounting, route management, order entry, logistics and retail point-of-sale. Seacore staff was overwhelmed by the time-consuming manual processes which inhibited the company’s enormous growth prospects. Moreover, Seacore executives grew concerned about the potential negative impact that the tedious and labor-intensive manual processes could have on the company’s customer service, order delivery times and inventory control.

With the installation of VAI’s S2K for Food software and S2K e-Commerce, Seacore automated and integrated key business processes across the organization. The company has dramatically improved its customer delivery times, order accuracy and overall customer service. After implementing VAI S2K Route Manager and S2K for Food, Seacore has realized tremendous business benefits that have allowed them to drive an impressive growth trajectory.

Those key results include:
  • Rapid implementation
  • More accurate and up-to-the-minute inventory management
  • Real-time consolidated financials
  • Automation of core business functions yielded more time to spend on sales and customer service, allowing for faster growth
  • Timely account receivables management
  •  Faster customer delivery rates and reduced order picking time
  •  Faster, more accurate order entry
  • Greater inventory accuracy
  • Faster route management processing
  • Full traceability of products
“VAI’s S2K software allowed us to reach phenomenal efficiencies across the organization. The S2K installation dramatically improved nearly every part of our business – from accounting and logistics to inventory and warehouse management. By automating many of these key functions, our team can focus on critical aspects of our business such as sales and customer service. And we feel confident that we can continue our impressive growth trajectory knowing that our business is running as smoothly and efficiently as possible.” ~ Sal Battaglia, Director of Operations, Seacore Seafood

Corkcicle Uncorks Business Success With Oracle's NetSuite

Founded in 2010 and based in Orlando, Florida, Corkcicle first found success developing an in-bottle wine chiller that avoided the mess of an ice bucket. Continuing to innovate and pushing the boundaries of design helped Corkcicle expand into barware and eventually the hydration space. It now boasts sales across 4,000 retail partner locations in North America, including Williams-Sonoma, Macy’s, Target, Nordstrom, and Crate and Barrel.

Implementing NetSuite’s cloud-based system in 2014 enabled outsourced partners to easily continue their functions, while analytics and reporting deliver data-driven decision-making. Meanwhile, multi-location inventory management provides visibility across 3PL partner sites in Atlanta, Salt Lake City and the Netherlands for distribution across nearly 40 countries.

Recently, thanks in-part to the data-driven decisions NetSuite helps to facilitate, the company has expanded its custom-work line of business, selling beverage chilling products with corporate customer logos to HGTV, distilleries and wineries. The automated purchase order workflow is able to provide speed and accuracy in order production from four contract manufacturing partners.

“Before we were making decisions on hunches. With NetSuite, we can really see and analyze our business drivers and make informed decisions.” — David Jarrell, Head of IT, Corkcicle

Annabelle Candy Company Enhances Business Processes With SYSPRO

Annabelle Candy Company began operations some 62 years ago when a Russian immigrant began making candy bars in his San Francisco kitchen and selling them outside local movie theatres. Today, the company, named for the immigrant’s daughter, Annabelle, operates in the San Francisco East Bay City of Hayward, California. It produces such brands as Rocky Road, Abba Zaba and Big Hunk and is set to expand its distribution activities from the West Coast to all of the US.

The Challenge
In order to facilitate growth and comply with FDA rules, the company needed to computerize and automate inventory tracking as well as accounting operations, which were being performed manually. After an extensive search, the company selected SYSPRO Enterprise Resource Planning software.

The Solution
SYSPRO’s Cash Book enables Annabelle to optimize cash management with system-wide bank reconciliation information on cash inflows and outflows. By providing complete enterprise-wide financial recording, analysis and reporting from all aspects of the business, the General Ledger module gives Annabelle a real-time view of corporate performance.

Annabelle controls inventories and optimizes stock levels via the Purchase Orders module, which also lets the company monitor quality, lead times and costs of purchases in addition to providing comprehensive supplier performance analysis.

With sales activity data from the Sales Analysis module, Annabelle gains a total picture of sales performance as well as sales profitability and sales forecasting.

The Bill of Materials module also facilitates an accurate expected cost against which to track actual production costs. The complete bill forms the basis for material and capacity planning, shop floor control and costing.

The Result
President and CEO Susan Karl and Vice President of Finance Shelly Craft have attributed much of the company’s rapid growth to their SYSPRO ERP implementation. In fact, the company’s rapid growth in the western United States is now encouraging the company to expand nationally. Karl and Craft are proud of their choice of SYSPRO and can relate the operational improvements the company has realized since the software’s implementation.

Silver Spring Foods Improves Inventory With Deacom ERP

Silver Spring Foods not only has its own products and brands, but is it also a large co-packer for some of the biggest names on grocery shelves today. A business like theirs has complexities surrounding inventory, documentation, and unique requirements, and Silver Spring Foods manages it with the help of DEACOM. Silver Spring CIO, Noah Wallace III, outlined the biggest impacts that DEACOM ERP has made on their business.

•Reducing Inventory Variance by up to 99%
For years, Silver Spring Foods accepted the fact that their inventory was off $250,000-$300,000. Since implementing DEACOM, they have significantly reduced their inventory variance “Every year, we have gotten better and better,” said Wallace. “We are currently down to about $1,700 in variance even though we now have more inventory.”

•Automating Document Generation
Prior to DEACOM, Silver Spring Foods needed to pull information from multiple systems to create a single document, not to mention manually putting it all together. Today, they have a strong system in place that keeps all critical information in one location and automatically generates documents like Certificate of Analysis and Bill of Ladings. “It’s a much simpler task than it used to be and we know that it is done right. This really helped our people on the warehouse side,” said Wallace.

•Handling Complex Requirements
Making 700-800 different products for various companies, including their own, creates a lot of complexity in their business processes as each brand has their own requirements and expectations. “Before Deacom, a lot of processes were handled outside of the ERP – through excel or MS Access,” said Wallace. “But now with DEACOM, we have the ability to handle those requirements within the system.”

To learn more, visit the Deacom Newsroom or follow them on Twitter: @DeacomInc.

Iberia Foods Turns to Blue Ridge for Supply Chain Planning

Hispanic food and beverage distributor Iberia Foods Corp. has selected supply chain planning technology from Blue Ridge to align the distribution of its product inventory with expected demand from customers.

Iberia Foods started in 1930’s and now distributes to more than 10,000 supermarkets, clubs, wholesale vendors and distributors throughout the East Coast and Midwest from its locations in Brooklyn, NY; Somerset, NJ; Miami; Orlando; Atlanta; Springfield, MA; and Chicago.

Blue Ridge’s cloud-based, distribution-focused forecasting and inventory planning system balances customer needs with business realities like erratic demand from regional uniqueness, seasonality, supermarket promotional/ad movement and market fluctuations that put pressure on today’s foodservice and food wholesale distributors.

“Working with Blue Ridge will allow us to quickly and effectively fulfill increasing demand from our customers while taking our supply chain planning to the next level in order to continue to provide the best service to our also increasing customer base”, said Eric Miller, Chief Executive Officer, Iberia Foods Corp.

The Blue Ridge supply chain platform, which was named 2018's best cloud-native supply chain planning solution for distributors by Frost & Sullivan, helps customers reduce costs, improve service levels, and assure product availability to customers without creating a costly inventory surplus. For more information on Blue Ridge’s supply chain expertise in the foodservice industry, please visit their resource page.
