American Metals Supply Enhances Business Performance with Epicor

American Metals Supply Co., Inc. is a wholesale distributor of sheet and coil steel, prefabricated duct and fittings, and a complete line of HVAC products. As a third-generation family-owned and now woman-owned business, they have been serving HVAC contractors since 1962. Today they have revenues of over $100 million and eight locations across the Midwest, serving twelve states, all while relying on Eclipse technology advancements to support this growth.

Successfully selling 300K tons of steel in a 12-month period requires having a close eye on sales results. American Metals Supply has used Epicor Data Analytics (EDA) to seamlessly integrate with Eclipse to pull information into dashboards that they can use to quickly view their sales activity.

When the COVID-19 crisis hit in early 2020, they were able to quickly adapt by using EDA to modify their dashboards and monitor new metrics to drive even more efficiency. Using analytics to closely monitor A/R data, including metrics such as days to pay, week over week receivables, and existing credit limits, they improved cash flow by reducing ADP by over three days.

Using the right information in an easy-to-access format, gave the company the ability to avoid reducing headcount, unlike so many of their peers in this challenging market environment.

American Metals Supply does not have a showroom. Approximately 90% of their business is done via delivery. In addition to EDA, American Metals Supply has used other third-party solutions that have been integrated into Eclipse.

Having an eCommerce presence, powered by Eclipse partner Second Phase, allowed them to serve customers quickly without customers dropping by their facility. Utilizing iPads with an app from a solution partner, Innovo, each driver has their own device, removing the need for paperwork and customer contact, while increasing efficiency and flexibility.

"Eclipse has helped us become so efficient in purchasing that we can finish purchasing in half a day and spend the second half of the day working on projects that help us move forward" - Brandon Gregory, Supply Chain Manager, American Metals Supply

Radwell International Overcomes Industry Disruptions With Epicor

Established in 1979, Radwell International is a family-owned company headquartered in New Jersey. Known for being an industrial distributor with a large line of industrial automation products, Radwell serves customers globally and has offices in the US, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

Radwell had multiple systems to support their needs, rather than something centralized. With information scattered all over the place, they knew that they needed a turnkey solution. That's why Radwell partnered with Epicor and implemented the Prophet 21 ERP system, a cloud-ready business system for distributors.

At the most basic level, Epicor allows Radwell International to scan, capture, retrieve and store documents digitally in a central location. Having this content stored and accessible electronically allowed their entire organization to improve collaboration, increase efficiency, and enhance security

"We've been able to process orders faster. We've been able to collect cash faster," John Janthor, Vice President of Information Technology, said. "We have been able to grow revenue more efficiently."

One of Radwell International's biggest challenges is competing with industry giants like Amazon. Yet now, with a 30 to 40% faster pick ratio, the organization can offer same-day shipping. As a result, the company can use the energy that was spent on picking and use it to scale the business. Now their stellar customer service makes them stand out from the big box competition.

"Now we're using robotics in our warehouses," Janthor said. "This is what allows us to place orders and ship the same day." Here's how it works: The system stores 50,000 bins in a small space. When an order comes through, it is dispatched to the Swisslog warehouse system through Prophet 21. It is in then immediately delivered to a picker, who stands at a station and the product comes to them. They turn around, put it in a box, and it goes to their automatic labeling and shipping system. "It's been a huge increase in efficiency," Janthor said.

Advantage Industrial Automation Improves Customer Satisfaction with Epicor

Advantage Industrial Automation, based in Duluth, Georgia, provides industrial control and automation solutions to the food, beverage, water and waste management, consumer products, and materials handling industries, among others. Founded in 1989, Advantage most recently became a subsidiary of Graybar, a leading distributor of electrical, communications, and data networking products. This relationship benefited both companies by joining Advantage's capabilities with Graybar's supply chain management and logistics services to open opportunities into new territories and better serve existing customers.

Challenge: Identify a Windows-based ERP solutions system that accurately captures historical customer information while streamlining the company's processing, purchasing, and shipping process and offering electronic data interchange (EDI) transaction capabilities

Solution: Epicor Prophet 21 Benefits Provided the ability to process and ship orders in a timely fashion Facilitated EDI transactions and minimized the time and errors associated with handling paper documents Automated internal processes so employees can better serve customers

“Our growth plans have always been to expand with existing customers, while identifying new ones. As a subsidiary of Graybar Electric, our resources and potential are greatly enhanced and we are able to expand into new markets and territories. We are always looking for ways to find efficiencies and improve our processes.” said David Tatro, CIO/Finance Director, Advantage Industrial Automation.

According to Tatro, Prophet 21 furthered this goal by providing the ability to “quickly process orders, purchase products, and get those products out the door to customers.” This includes using EDI extensively with larger customers to reduce the time Advantage employees “spend printing and sending things out, logging into other networks to find key details,” and manually producing and tracking down purchase orders and other extraneous documents.

Other benefits included the automation of transactions using Epicor Trading Partner Connect (TPCx) and mapping software features. This has offered the in-depth eCommerce ability to exchange information electronically with customers. For instance, Prophet 21 enabled Advantage to simply and instantly accept transactions and then share purchase and shipping order acknowledgements with one of its largest customers via their new trading platform.

“Prophet 21 has helped us drastically reduce errors,” added Tatro. “The old days of faxing and managing pieces of paper, as well as tracking down files, are done. We are solely focused on growth and meeting customer needs. Epicor knows distribution, and that's what we do.”

Cladtek Improves Business Operations With Epicor

Founded in 2003, Singapore-based Cladtek is the world's largest manufacturer of weld overlay corrosion resistant alloy (CRA) products, and a global leader in CRA mechanically lined pipe (MLP). Cladtek counts most of the world's leading oil and gas industry contractors and original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as its customers.

Cladtek originally utilized a number of home-grown systems to support financial, procurement, and production functions. With further growth targeted, the company recognized the need for a consolidated and integrated system and the benefits that better access to and use of data would bring.

Challenges:
  • Existing data management systems were outdated and independently run
  • Plans for international growth required access to more and better-quality data
  • Needed to improve operational efficiency and be able to make decisions faster
The company knew its global expansion plan was not sustainable without a comprehensive enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution that would provide the management team with insight into every aspect of the business. Cladtek selected Epicor ERP and the eight-month implementation period for the Epicor ERP solution allowed Cladtek and the Epicor team to ensure the ERP system was integrated across all its locations and departments.

As a result, information is now available in real time, online, and integrated across all departments-allowing staff to foresee potential problems and prevent them from occurring in the first place. In addition, they are able to respond quickly when changes are necessary, so they can be twice as responsive to ever-increasing customer demands, market changes, and 24/7 business pressures.

Financial information is more accurate and transparent, and allows the management team to have better visibility of the overall business operations. The latest support features for multiple data sources in Epicor ERP are expected to realize even further benefits for Cladtek. With the means to publish dashboards on mobile devices and Microsoft SharePoint sites for improved collaboration, different departments and locations are able to better work together to deliver first-class performance and standards across the business.

Cosma International Improved Inventory Reporting With Epicor

Cosma International, a wholly-owned operating unit of Magna International, is a global automotive supplier providing a range of body, chassis and engineering solutions to OEM customers. Unsatisfied with the lack of functionality and support for its legacy business management system, Cosma International's operation in Victor, Iowa, searched for an integrated enterprise resource planning (ERP) system that allowed for real-time shop floor reporting and inventory management.

Cosma International selected Epicor CMS for discrete manufacturing and has never looked back. "With our legacy system we were reporting all of our inventory transactions at one reporting station," recalls Andy Hrasky, assistant general manager at Cosma International's Victor operation. "It was on the shop floor, so it was somewhat in real-time. That process required a lot of unnecessary, time-consuming movements."

Key Challenges face by Cosma:
  • Accurate inventory management
  • Lack of electronic data interchange (EDI) capabilities
  • Manual spreadsheet-based production scheduling
  • No visualization of shop floor data
Solution:
  • Epicor CMS, integrated enterprise business system for manufacturing and distribution
  • Epicor Informance, enterprise manufacturing intelligence (EMI) system
Key Benefits:
  • Accurate, real-time, shop floor reporting and inventory management
  • Integrated production scheduling
  • Reliable EDI
  • Near-instant access to key metrics
  • Accurate, finite shop floor information using programmable logic controls (PLCs) and an open connectivity protocol (OPC)

Today, Cosma International has 23 reporting stations on the floor. "The event based reporting system in Epicor CMS is integral to what we do," says Hrasky. "We couldn't get by without it."

Epicor Enables Auto Parts Distributors To Easily Research, Place, and Track Special Orders

Epicor Software recently announced a new feature that enables users of Epicor® Vision® automotive aftermarket distribution software to quickly and easily research, place, and track special orders and drop-ship orders through their suppliers. This new capability—available through integration of the Vision solution with the GCommerce Virtual Inventory Cloud (VIC)—eliminates the need to call a manufacturer for pricing and availability and automates processing of special orders.

The VIC integration enables Vision software users to look up, price, place, and track special orders and drop-ship orders through the Vision solution’s electronic sourcing form. Electronic purchase orders are automatically generated and transmitted to the manufacturer through Epicor Parts Network connectivity, while purchase order numbers, advance shipping notices, and invoices flow back to the user’s Vision software, eliminating time-intensive paperwork.

By dramatically reducing the time and labor commonly associated with special orders, the new Vision software feature can help distributors increase revenue, save time, and provide a better customer experience, according to Jim Scrivner, president of Al’s Automotive Supply, a 14-location distributor serving the St. Louis metropolitan area. “Using the VIC integration on Vision software saves our counterpeople valuable time and helps us make more sales. With this integration, special orders happen seamlessly and get tracked inside Vision software all in one step. We look forward to transitioning to this feature for all major vendors."

Epicor Vision software is a next-generation solution for parts distributors targeting increased operational efficiency, stronger sales and margin growth, and exceptional customer satisfaction and loyalty. The software, which can be deployed either on premises or in the cloud, features world-class customer relationship management (CRM) tools, a centralized database, highly advanced price management and inventory capabilities, accounting, and comprehensive "central services" functionality for businesses that serve both company-owned and independent stores.

Townsend Building Supply Streamlines Operations with Epicor

Townsend Building Supply is now a third-generation lumber and building materials (LBM) company. The company started in 1921 as a sawmill and has continued to grow over the years and currently operates five locations in the Southern United States. Townsend wanted to operate with new technology in order to stay competitive in the market.

Townsend chose Epicor's BisTrack solution as it was designed to be open and accessible, with multiple simple ways to look at business data. “The business intelligence functionality in BisTrack software is one of my favorite aspects because—not only for me as the president, but also for my people—we can all easily access the data that they used to have to come to me for,” said Michael Townsend, president. “Everyone can see sales performance, margin performance, truck fill performance, etc. in real time, which help us run the business with fewer interruptions.”

Identifying and strengthening strong customer relationships—and limiting the impact from unprofitable ones—can help drive growth. “We've implemented the BisTrack Customer Stratification tool,” said Townsend. “Having data on our customers is crucial to see how well they are actually performing versus what our perception is of their performance. Our future goals with Customer Stratification are to better engage our customers so that their relationship with us, and ultimately their purchasing, increases as time goes on. We’ll know more about our customers, what they buy, and what they don’t buy so that we can target them with specific marketing efforts rather than just generic.”

Benefits experienced since BisTrack implementation include:
  • Increased employee count from 45 to 85 employees
  • Expanded from two locations to five
  • Sped decision-making based on accurate data because of efficient software
  • Reduced shrink by 50 percent
  • Diminished mistakes involving inventory, stock receiving, and payables
  • Eliminated paper-based dispatch and delivery processes
  • Consolidated deliveries to fewer locations to better utilize people and equipment

Raymond Building Supply Gets On-Track With Epicor BisTrack

Raymond Building Supply serves professional builders from five locations near their base in North Fort Meyers, Florida. Raymond has used Epicor's BisTrack software for several years and it has helped restructure their business to operate more efficiently in their marketspace.

The benefits Raymond Building has experienced include the following:
  • Reduced administration staff
  • Saved time retrieving information and reports
  • Improved project accuracy
  • Enabled managers to be proactive
  • Positioned company for growth
  • Automated manual tasks
  • Better customer service
BisTrack software has automated many tasks that had been done manually at Raymond. Additionally, tasks as varied as inventory, calculating sales tax, and searching for and filing documents are completed much faster within the solution. “It’s all about the dashboards to me,” said Duane Swanson, Jr., president and CFO, Raymond Building Supply. “Our managers have their BisTrack software dashboards up 24/7—constantly monitoring our business operations in real time with much greater efficiency. Whether it’s gross margin exceptions, system alerts, you name it, the information is all there, so they can be more proactive. That’s huge.”

The BisTrack instant documentation solution has helped Raymond uncover issues that were eating away at their profits—delivery disputes where missing items were replaced at Raymond’s cost, kits where inventory was not fully allocated, and mistakes due to lost paperwork. “Taking photos of deliveries definitely pays for itself,” commented Ken Myers, millwork manager at Raymond, referring to the BisTrack Mobile Delivery feature that uses a camera phone to capture photos of a delivered load and link it to the order documents.

Emirates Metallic Industries Selects Epicor To Improve Manufacturing

Emirates Metallic Industries Company Limited (EMIC), a manufacturer of metal packaging solutions in the UAE, has selected its global enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution, Epicor ERP. Epicor ERP will allow EMIC to increase visibility, transparency and information exchange across the organization, automate manufacturing processes, improve inventory control and minimize human error in reporting.

The functionality offered in Epicor ERP will also enable the organization to meet the requirements of the international quality management standard, ISO 9001:2015, and the soon to be introduced VAT regulations in the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. With Epicor ERP serving as the backbone of the business, EMIC now also has the confidence to update its ISO certification from ISO 9001:2008 to ISO 9001:2015.

“As more and more small-to-medium size manufacturing organizations in the UAE look to grow their businesses and expand into new regions, they are choosing to replace their legacy systems with modern ERP solutions. EMIC is the perfect example of this,” said Monzer Tohme, regional vice president, Middle East and Africa, Epicor Software. “With over 27 years of experience providing solutions to metal packaging companies across the world, I am confident that Epicor ERP will enable EMIC to reap operational benefits, respond to continual pressures to keep up with strict quality standards, and ensure they meet the demands of their customers on time, every time.”

Burton Lumber Improves Profitability With Epicor

Burton Lumber is a family-owned building material dealer with a rich history. The company features multiple locations throughout Utah, but the business’ charter dates back to 1911. The largest locally owned lumberyard in Utah, Burton Lumber has seven retail lumberyard locations, as well as northern and southern truss plants, a custom door and millwork shop, and over 400 employees.

Burton needed to update technology from an antiquated system to improve business operations. In order to move into the future, the business’ operations team decided to implement the Epicor BisTrack solution with Dispatch and Delivery and Journey Planner applications that makes it easy for dispatchers to drag and drop orders onto selected vehicles and rearrange orders to reflect priorities.

Since implementing Epicor BisTrack, Burton Lumber has been able to gain efficiencies, improve profitability, and enhance customer service.
Additional business benefits include:
•Streamlined business processes, including more efficient millwork operations
•Accurate and easy-to-access data
•Visible and efficient dispatching
•Substantial year-over-year growth
