On Time Supply Enhances Inventory Management with Distribution One

From high-quality tools to warranty repair service for air compressors, pneumatic tools, and more, On Time Supply is a distributor in the wholesale hardware industry. On Time Supply relies on the supplementary integration between Distribution One’s comprehensive ERP-ONE software and Amazon for accurate online inventory management and fast order processing.

Integrating ERP-ONE with Amazon provides auto-processing of orders as well as inventory auto-adjustments. The connectivity between Amazon and ERP-ONE has saved On Time Supply up to 2 hours of order processing time savings every day. When viewed on a monthly scale, this equates to a full week of productivity savings.

On Time Supply has also realized productivity improvements relating to their inventory. Under their manual method, the process of maintaining accurate inventory levels on Amazon required 4-5 hours of active daily oversight. After integration, ERP-ONE provides Amazon with real-time inventory levels to reconcile new changes to stock without employee interaction.

Another key component of On Time Supply’s success has been its ability to maintain accurate inventory levels between its storefront and Amazon. If a drill is purchased from the physical storefront, the adjusted information transfers from ERP-ONE to Amazon to ensure the correct product amounts are displayed. Having this inventory auto-update capability is crucial to successful marketplace selling as Amazon does not tolerate order cancellation rates over 2.5% due to out of stock items.

Distribution One Offers Guidance On ERP Implementation

Are you stuck on the “When” of ERP implementation? If you’re having difficulty selecting the timing, you are not alone. Many distributors postpone ERP hoping that some sign will reveal the perfect time to implement. The justifications are fairly common:
•We’ll wait until the new fiscal year
•We’ll schedule it for our slow period
•We’ll do it after we finish hiring
•Maybe after the holidays?

Rationalizations drive delays. Yet without the improvements of interconnected ERP software, days, weeks, and months equate to lost opportunities for compounding savings, productivity, and growth. Remember that the longer implementation is put off, the longer your company will be mired in redundant, inefficient processes. Honestly ask yourself these questions:

• Are the sales staff producing at the highest levels using my current system?
• Are the warehouse quantities and locations reliable?
• Is the sales, customer, and inventory data easily accessible for users in or out of the office?
• Are sales and purchasing projections based on real-time data?
• Does my current productivity, pricing, and turnaround deliver maximum competitive advantage?

If you answered “no” to any of these, it’s a good indication that you have already recognized the need for ERP and should make plans to forge ahead. You already know that your current manual method or legacy system isn’t providing the necessary tools for your company to succeed.

For over 20 years, Distribution One has successfully helped hundreds of distributors find their “best time” for the ERP implementation process. To learn more, visit the Distribution One Newsroom.

Southern Fasteners Streamlines Processes With Distribution One

Southern Fasteners, a large regional wholesaler and distributor of parts such as screws and nuts, bolts, drill bits, electrical panels, and other kinds of hardware needed to replace their proprietary, UNIX-based application for tasks such as tracking inventory, entering orders and managing customer information.

The current application was difficult for employees to learn, cumbersome and time-consuming. The UNIX-based software was not very flexible and business processes would frequently need to be adjusted to work within the limitations of the system - not exactly ideal for a growing company in a competitive marketplace.

After evaluating several alternatives, Southern Fasteners chose V2 Fastener, a modular application from Distribution One that manages an array of tasks. Benefits gained by switching applications included the following:

• Daily work is managed in a faster, more streamlined fashion
• A user-friendly interface made navigating between tasks about 75% faster than before
• A flexible solution that is easy to customize
• Software integrated easily with Southern Fasteners other business applications

Cathy's Concepts Selects Distribution One For Business Growth

Cathy’s Concepts, a wholesale manufacturer and distributor of personalized gifts, wedding accessories, spa accessories and novelty apparel, started as a small wholesale jewelry company and has grown into a complex business servicing end users, retailers and gift stores nationwide. With a state-of-the-art distribution center, fully-staffed design team, sales team and customer service call center on site, Cathy's Concepts sells both directly to consumers and to retailers.

To keep pace with business growth, meet the needs of its customers and secure a competitive advantage, Cathy’s Concepts needed an automated ERP solution to ensure streamlined, efficient business operations. The solution they chose was Progress OpenEdge®-based V2 ERP solution from Distribution One. One of the key decision factors was that the Windows-based V2 Enterprise system allowed the company to take advantage of the solution’s expanded capabilities, including an online order management system and expanded reporting.

Since upgrading its order management system from a manual, paper-based operation to an online system, the company has achieved tremendous results in streamlined business operations, improved customer service, increased visibility and reduced costs. Cathy’s Concepts is using V2 as the core of its business to manage inventory, order processing — from import to the manifesting — as well as pushing updates to their multiple websites to reflect near real-time inventory availability. Said Patrick Geisler, IT Administrator, Cathy’s Concepts, “The ability to manage orders online has created greater efficiency in our business and has given us more flexibility in modifying and tracking orders. We have also reduced our costs previously associated with the paper-based production process by about 70%.”

Outcomes since implementing Distribution One's Progress OpenEdge®-based V2 ERP solution:
  • reduced costs associated with the paper-based production process by 70%
  • cut production time for various operations by at least 15%
  • reduced order inquiry call volume by approximately 20%.
To learn more about the Cathy's Concepts implementation, or receive details about Distribution One's V2 ERP, V2 Fastener, V2 Industrial and V2 Retail Fulfillment software, visit the Distribution One newsroom.

Distribution One's V2 ERP Helps Security Lock Distributors Achieve Growth

With over 500,000 products in stock and over 100 manufacturers represented, Security Lock Distributors is a wholesale source for lock, architectural, and access control hardware, boasting the largest in-stock inventory in the security industry.

While the company had an information-based website, it did not offer customers the ability to conduct business online or even via email. The only way to place an order was by fax or through the call center. The company's old mainframe system was extremely inefficient and non-intuitive. Unlike a Windows environment, the old system required employees to remember numerous keystrokes. This had a severe impact on productivity, taking new employees up to 30-minutes just to process a single order.

With four locations, including its headquarters in Westwood, MA and three distribution centers across the United States, it was clear Security Lock Distributors needed a modern, automated ERP system to streamline its operations, increase its visibility across the entire enterprise, and most importantly, achieve the business agility to meet the changing needs of its customers.

After considering various solutions, Security Lock Distributors selected the V2 ERP solution from Distribution One. V2 ERP is a complete system for Wholesalers and Distributors for automating all aspects of business operations, including order entry, sales, purchasing, inventory, CRM, accounting, and finance. In addition, V2 is extremely user-friendly with all screens and menus have a consistent look and feel that is similar to most Microsoft® products which reduces training and processing time for employees. Since implementing V2 and its e-commerce website, Security Lock Distributors has decreased the number of calls to its call center by 20%. The company has also increased its shipping rate to 98% because employees are far more productive and efficient.
