Tapco Uses MITS For Fast ROI

Tapco was founded in 1974 and has grown to stock the largest inventory of plastic elevator buckets and metal bolts in the world, some 900,000 buckets and 15 million bolts, out of a 95,000 square foot, on-site manufacturing facility in Missouri.

Prior to MITS, Tapco had struggled for years trying to get the right information to the individuals that needed it, as many of the company’s existing reporting tools would provide an answer but lacked drill-down capability as well as access to ancillary data. The IT department, managed by Brennan Radmer, found themselves frequently generating additional reports or manually exporting and manipulating the data in Excel, a time-consuming task that took his group away from other equally important responsibilities. “We needed a tool where anyone could easily drill down through the numbers and see the trends right away, without having to do a massive amount of data mining or report generation. This was a must for us.”

Tapco researched several solutions and one reason MITS stood out to Brennan was the breadth of information available through their easy to use UI. Brennan noted, “We needed a tool that had pre-made content like reports that we could put to use right away." Another feature that stood out to Brennan was MITS’ access to data. Brennan explains: “One of the issues we were having with our ERP was that it was reporting on territories, not sales reps. And so when an account would change territories, the historical data would stay locked in the old territory, making it extremely difficult to gauge how a territory was doing. MITS was able to provide the data in real time, going back upwards of 36 months. And if we made any changes, the MITS system reflected the changes without much assistance from IT."

Finally, all Tapco employees use iPads and Android phones to conduct business, and it was important for Brennan to find a tool that would not only run seamlessly across platforms, but also without install assistance from IT - or the cost of separate licenses for each device. Since MITS runs on a secure web-based platform, anyone with access to an internet browser could use the MITS system, anytime from anywhere. After consulting with the International Sales manager and ownership, Brennan was able to secure the decision to purchase MITS.

Tapco’s sales staff uses MITS daily to see who they are up with, as well as who they are down with, which is a critical point of focus for their company. “What is valuable with MITS is that they can show you exactly where the gains, or more importantly the losses, are happening in real time. Before MITS, we had ideas on where losses were occurring, but now we can pinpoint the downward trend with the account and take steps to mitigate or reverse it.”

Wholesale Distributor RJ Schinner Leverages Data With MITS

Headquartered in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, RJ Schinner has been in business for over 50 years and has 8 locations across the Midwest, from the Dakotas to Texas. RJ Schinner operates as a redistribution specialist, or as Jerry Boughner, RJ Schinner’s CIO puts it, a ‘wholesaler to wholesalers’. Their business model consists of purchasing food service, paper, janitor/sanitation, and grocery supplies from over 200 manufacturers and repacking them on pallets for customers who are unable to buy full or half truckloads. This allows RJ Schinner’s customers to mix and match their order, while still taking advantage of the favorable pricing terms offered to a large purchaser.

In searching for a new B.I. and reporting solution, two companies kept coming up – and MITS was one of them. Jerry remembers. “It really came down to my decision, and I wanted something that was native to our system – and with MITS being an official Epicor business partner whose product actually worked on the server as opposed to having to export all the data outside of our company and then have it come back, was a big factor in my decision to go with them,” Jerry said. “Plus I have an ever-expanding sales force and I didn’t want to have the cost and trouble of continually going out and getting licenses for them. I liked the MITS system and how it showed to the sales reps – it was much easier for them to use.”

After the decision was made to go with MITS, the next step was installation. “We first started rolling it out to sales people and management. The feedback I got was that it was very easy to use; in fact I was looking at some of the responses to the MITS test I ran with our salespeople after they had been using it for about 7 months. Every one of them was excellent in their proficiency with using the system. That is the nice thing about MITS - there is a lot of information, but it seems easy to disseminate.”

For RJ Schinner, the data trending functionality in MITS is proving to be an effective cost saver. “We really liked the way MITS trends data, “ Jerry says. “With regard to sales, our sales force can now see within 30 days what’s happening to an account, as opposed to finding about it at the end of the year."

“Our President is using the system for branch analysis – where the sales are trending, where the gross profit is trending – and really diving into the way our business is going, from our buy lines from our manufacturers for example, to determine which branches are up, which are down, etc. Our CEO, who is a wizard at working an Excel spreadsheet, is doing the same type of high-level analysis – and he really loves the MITS system for that. He is spending around 50-60-% less time generating reports than he was prior to MITS.”

ACI Controls Strengthens Industry Position With MITS

ACI Controls, Inc. (ACI) has been a distributor of industrial components, process control instrumentation, and on-site service since 1945. From its headquarters in Buffalo, New York, three stocking locations, and seven sales offices in the northeast, ACI’s staff of 42 provide customers with the equipment, solutions, and customer service required in today’s fast-paced manufacturing environment.

A Tribute customer since 2008, ACI uses TrulinX ERP business management software to efficiently run company operations. According to John Wischerath, VP of Operations for ACI, “we are extremely pleased with the performance of our TrulinX system, but like most of the ERP solutions I have ever looked at it doesn’t have robust reporting and business intelligence built in. When we learned about Tribute’s partnership with MITS, we immediately jumped at the chance to be an early adopter. Being able to leverage our TrulinX data to make better sales and inventory decisions is essential for us as we look to grow, operate more efficiently, and maintain market leadership.”

ACI is already seeing their investment pay off. “If you just take into account the time our staff spent manually putting reports together to identify trends and possible opportunities, the ROI on MITS is clear,” said John. “I highly recommend that all TrulinX customers evaluate MITS Distributor Analytics for their business.” The sophisticated reporting features of MITS will help ACI to maintain its industry leadership position, providing products and services that exceed customer expectations.

MITS Helps BJG Electronics’ Sales Exceed Business Goals

New York-based BJG Electronics (BJG) specializes in the distribution of mil-aero, industrial, and harsh environment connectors, connector accessories, and electromechanical interconnect products. BJG has supported the Military, Aerospace, Transit, and Industrial marketplaces since 1979.

BJG had big reporting needs that could not be met by the company’s one-person IT shop said Lisa Hathaway, Manager of Information Systems for BJG. Lisa discovered MITS at a trade show and loved what she saw in MITS Distributor Analytics. “I was thrilled to see that MITS included hundreds of built-in, functional reports right out of the box,” said Lisa. “This meant that time to value was practically instant for us.” Before making a purchase decision, Lisa evaluated a couple of other products, neither of which offered pre-built reports and the same depth of functionality as MITS.

All Field Sales reps use MITS to track their performance against individual, sales team and company goals said Mark Mulle, Global Sales and Marketing Manager for BJG. “If we expect our sales reps to be accountable for their sales and other goals, we had to give them the tools to be successful,” said Mark. “The dashboards and scorecards that came with MITS helped us jumpstart adoption. With very little training, my team was able to drill into their accounts to identify opportunities for growth. They can analyze accounts down to the part number and quickly identify why and where business has been lost. With this information in hand, the reps can have a directed conversation with the customer. All of the data they need to be successful is now at their fingertips through MITS.”

ISCO Industries Keeps Pipeline Full With MITS

ISCO Industries is one of the largest suppliers of HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pipe and related services in the United States. Founded in 1962 in Louisville, Kentucky, ISCO has more than 350 employees and operates 28 facilities in the United States, Canada and Australia.

ISCO has stringent security requirements that any technology solution it implements needs to meet. Usability and a short learning curve were also critical. When searching for a business intelligence solution to support the required queries and reports, MITS Discover Business Intelligence solution rose to the top.

The MITS security capabilities let each sales rep quickly see the information they need to see, while protecting sensitive data from unauthorized eyes. The company also purchased the MitsMaker design tool and attended MITS hosted training with the intention of designing some of its own hypercubes going forward.

Since the implementation, ISCO reports that one of the most positive outcomes from MITS Discover has been speed and the ease of learning. The sales force can very quickly get all the information they need to do their job. ISCO’s MITS Discover implementation will continue to expand as they learn to create their own hypercubes using MitsMaker. The company also acquired a license for the MITS Report operational reporting solution, and has begun studying related data requirements.

Wolf Creek Distribution Optimizes Inventory With MITS

Wolf Creek Company is a wholesale distributor of equipment and supplies for landscape, golf course and agricultural irrigation, landscape lighting, water features, lake aeration, fountains, and systems for pumping, waste harvesting, retention and drainage. Founded in 1961, the Dayton, Ohio-based firm serves hundreds of customers in Ohio, Western Pennsylvania, West Virginia and Kentucky.

Wolf Creek uses Epicor Prophet 21 to manage its business and run day-to-day operations. That software solution enables the company to carefully manage their business, but there are a number of critical answers the ERP system doesn’t directly provide—answers that are essential to Wolf Creek’s success: inventory and sales.

Through its participation in the irrigation industry’s Virtualrain buying group, Wolf Creek learned that MITS had an analytics solution in use with other ERP’s. The MITS Distributor Analytics solution was prepared to work with Prophet 21 as well. Wolf Creek acquired a server to host the solution, and the MITS team installed and adapted its analytic solution to work seamlessly with Prophet 21.

With the new solution in place, Wolf Creek sees significant advantages already. Now, sales reps can log into the MITS solution directly on their iPads and see how things are going across their entire customer base. With access to deep, item by- item inventory analysis, the company can—in a general way—better decide what to store in what quantities, and where. More specifically, it’s much faster and easier to identify specific instances of too much or too little stock.

Reinders Enhances Sales Performance With MITS Reporting

Reinders, Inc. is a family-owned distribution company established in 1866 in Elm Grove, Wisconsin and serving the commercial green industry—such as golf courses, municipalities, schools, parks and other outdoor recreational facilities.

As Reinders grew, its needs evolved. Reinders’ business, however, presented a range of complexities. “Our organization includes a matrix of sales reps, product categories and regions,” explains Reinders IT director Robin McGuire. “Also, our Reinders IT resources are extremely limited.” These challenges meant sales reps and managers had to wait for monthly reports to be printed and transported to their locations. For these reasons, Reinders began looking for a reporting and analysis solution better matched to its need for enhanced, self-service decisions support, and automated, easily distributed reporting.

Early in its search, the Reinders team learned of the MITS Distributor Analytics solution. “Our company president saw a MITS demo, and immediately liked its ability to present snapshots of the business— with the added analytic facility for drilling down into the details when problems or opportunities become apparent,” says McGuire. The MITS solution offered other important advantages: instant, automated report distribution via the Web and email, data export to PDF or Excel for further investigation as well as dashboarding and reporting for use at appropriate levels within the organization. The Reinders team decided to begin using MITS Distributor Analytics, and MITS Report (for operational reporting) to make the wealth of data held within the Infor SX.enterprise system accessible on a selfserve basis. Implementation was rapid and rewarding.

Reinders will expand its use of MITS Discover and MITS Report in the near future, adding a number of standardized reports and a second analysis application focused on inventory. “Now, we’ll get answers in the hands of decision-makers much more quickly,” says McGuire. “So decisions can be made more quickly. Our company will be able to take advantage of more opportunities, and address issues before they become larger problems.”

To learn more about the Reinders implementation, visit the MITS Newsroom.

North Coast Electric Enhances Analytics With MITS

Seattle-based North Coast Electric, founded in 1913, is a family-owned electrical distributor with 34 locations across the Pacific Northwest, Alaska, and Arizona. The company, consistently ranked in the top 25 electrical distributors by Electrical Wholesaling, supplies a wide range of electrical equipment to the electrical contractor, factory automation, industrial maintenance/repairs/operating and commercial and institutional markets.

North Coast Electric decided to replace a 20-year-old legacy business system with Epicor Eclipse, a full-range enterprise resource planning (ERP) software solution designed specifically for distributors. To ensure both security and efficient operation of their Eclipse system, North Coast requires all analysis and reporting be conducted on a separate server, housing access-tuned data to be synchronized daily with the operational system.

Fortunately, MITS’ solution can be deployed in this fashion, creating “hypercubes”—analytics-ready data environments—and “report sources” used for creating operational reports, all stored separately from operational data.

Results:
MITS Distributor Analytics provides North Coast with actionable information and insights. Business users are able to access, create and customize reports themselves, and convert them into Microsoft® Excel®, PDF files or e-mails, freeing the company’s IT personnel for more complex tasks. By moving the bulk of their report processing to a dedicated MITS Report server, 90 percent of North Coast’s reporting is now done away from the Eclipse server.

Many of the refinements to MITS Discover and MITS Report, made at North Coast’s request, reflect a proven business model that can be leveraged by other MITS customers in the distribution world and beyond.

FlexPAC Maximizing Data & Insights With MITS

Since 1985, Indianapolis-based FlexPAC has been a leader in packaging and facilities solutions. With 25+ solutions providers and specialists--in areas ranging from automation and package design to cleaning procedures, FlexPAC has resources and experience to solve any challenge. The company’s culture is both value-based and customer-centric, with a commitment to helping customers “gather data, gain insights, reduce costs” driving daily interactions and decisions across the 82-person company.

Data and insights are equally important inside the company as they are when interfacing with customers, especially in terms of mining the rich operational information stored in their ERP system, DDI Inform.

Steve Russell, CFO of FlexPAC explains, “Access to better data and insights doesn’t just help our customers be more successful, it also helps FlexPAC be a more nimble, and ultimately more successful, company.”

Down the road, Steve envisions every member of the company having a dashboard in MITS where they can track the metrics they are accountable for and measure progress towards their own personal goals. FlexPAC has already incorporated the use of MITS into staff meetings, and members are thinking about directed questions that can be answered using MITS. MITS is so easy to use that even some of their most techno-phobic team members have joined on to the MITS adoption train.
