Alfa Laval Drives Excellent Service With IFS

Founded in 1883, Alfa Laval is a Swedish company working in the areas of Energy, Marine, and Food & Water. The company provides expertise, products, and service to a range of industries in some 100 countries. With 17,500 employees, the company is committed to optimizing processes, creating responsible growth, and driving progress.

Driven by a long-term, company-wide initiative, Alfa Laval’s search for a modern solution for remote guidance took on a new urgency as the impact of COVID-19 made itself felt.

To ensure service levels and business continuity in areas where travel is banned or social distancing is required, the company selected IFS Remote Assistance. The solution allows two users to collaborate and interact in real-time—whether that’s supporting technicians in the field or customers directly.

“We chose IFS based on its strong technology and the long-term vision of the company," said Jens Pulczynski, Manager Global Service Operations, Alfa Laval. "Our customers have been 100 percent satisfied with the introduction of IFS Remote Assistance and impressed by the way it enabled us to continue serving them. As we recover from the crisis and return to more normal operations, we are convinced that our use of the solution will evolve from business continuity to business transformation.”

Elni Kullmer, Managing Director, IFS Nordics, added, “Across all industries, we are working with forward-thinking companies like Alfa Laval. Eliminating unnecessary travel, improving customer service efficiency, and providing tools for remote work are things that will continue to benefit all service-oriented businesses long after the immediate threat of the virus is gone.”

Australasia's TAE Implements IFS Applications 9 To Integrate ERP

IFS, a global enterprise applications company, recently announced that TAE, Australasia's leading provider of turbine engine maintenance, repair and overhaul services, is implementing IFS Applications™ 9 to integrate the TAE group of companies under a single enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.

TAE had previously purchased IFS Applications as an engineering management solution to comply with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). However, the company had different ERP systems at its Brisbane and Adelaide facilities. Replacing these two systems with IFS Applications will enhance business visibility with real-time reporting to support growth and reduce costs.

“The functionality was key—IFS is in our market and knew what we needed at a maintenance level,” said Andrew Sanderson, CEO of TAE. “We spoke with other users—some of them are our customers—and IFS had the reliability and the credibility we were looking for.”

Complete visibility across its operations will quickly benefit TAE with the IFS Lobby, a configurable and role-based dashboard environment facilitating real-time business reporting. IFS Applications will also lower TAE’s financial reporting costs and reduce the effort and delays involved in manually combining information sources using Excel spreadsheets. IFS Applications will also support TAE’s growth as it looks to develop its business in South East Asia and the U.S. with better customer communication and coordination of activities across different locations.

TAE will initially implement IFS Applications for financials, human resources, maintenance, manufacturing, supply chain, and sales and service. Later, it will deploy IFS project management capabilities within the integrated ERP solution. TAE also plans to use IFS Applications to underpin new mobile apps to streamline customer operations and interactions.

To read more about the TAE implementation, visit the IFS News blog.

Radpol Group Selects IFS For Manufacturing Operations

Radpol Group, a Polish manufacturer and supplier to the heating and energy sector, has chosen IFS Applications 8 to support its business-critical processes. The IFS system will be implemented in four manufacturing facilities owned by Radpol. Listed on the Warsaw stock exchange, Radpol manufactures heat transfer systems, products for the energy market, plastic water supply and sewage pipes, and gas pipe systems and employs 2,600 people. The group operates five manufacturing sites in Poland and its products are also exported to a number of European countries including Italy, Germany, Denmark, Finland, Switzerland, Sweden, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Republic, and Russia.

Following an extensive evaluation involving several ERP system products, the company chose IFS Applications as the solution best design to enhance Radpol's operational efficiency. IFS's experience in working with companies in the energy and manufacturing sectors was a key factor in its selection.

The IFS implementation will cover all key areas, including manufacturing, distribution, HR and payroll, maintenance, financials and accounting, as well as business analytics. Through better production workflow planning and stock accuracy optimization, Radpol expects to reduce their working capital with manufacturing and supply chain areas bringing in significant savings.

Is Manufacturing Behind In Embracing Enterprise Mobility?

In a recent article on the IFS blog, Antony Bourne, Global Manufacturing Industry Director discusses the myth that mobility is not suited to manufacturers, and offers two reasons why manufacturers are not tracking the mobility trend.

In his assessment the two main reason as a lack of proven case studies and how technology trends are outpacing the infrastructure of the average shop floor. Bourne asserts that the key thing about mobility is that, when used correctly, it increases productivity, which in turn supports the business to be able to react more quickly to any unforeseen changes.

What Businesses Want From Cloud ERP

Most enterprise software runs on servers at a business’ premises. However, a growing percentage of solutions like customer relationship management (CRM) or even enterprise resource planning (ERP) applications are delivered from the cloud. Sometimes they are even sold not through a perpetual license, but as a cloud subscription service.

Earlier this year, IFS asked 200 North American business executives involved with ERP and other enterprise software what they thought of the various methods of software provisioning, including on-premise, software-as-a-service (SaaS) and private cloud.

The answers to their survey reveal interesting opinions on SaaS versus on-premise and other cloud-based delivery models for ERP, which offer insights into what businesses see as the advantages and disadvantages of each.

In the case of SaaS, three clear views emerged from the survey:
1.Cost is seen as both a plus and a minus. Survey respondents think initial costs would be lower, but as the software is being rented, they believe costs would likely be higher in the longer term.

2.Automated upgrades are both an advantage and a drawback. As with hosting services, the service provider takes care of software maintenance and upgrades: you concentrate on running your business. Of course this means you yield some control to the vendor, who may change versions at a time you are ill-equipped to make the adjustment.

3.Security and control were jointly the most frequently-cited disadvantages. Lack of ownership of the software contributes directly to cost, so these issues may be seen as interdependent.

To read more about the results of the survey, visit the IFS website.
