Danbury Plumbing Supply Stays Competitive With DDI

Danbury Plumbing Supply has served the Greater Danbury area in Connecticut since 1910. With a 6,000 square foot kitchen and bath showroom plus additional office/wholesale location, communication and accuracy became key components to everyday operations. According to T.J. Hunt, president of Danbury Plumbing Supply, his vision for Danbury Plumbing was the creation of a single software solution that supported his entire supply house.

Hunt began his search for a new solution by speaking to surrounding area plumbing supply houses. Hunt was impressed with the feedback and called Adam Waller, president of DDI System. “After speaking to Adam, I could tell that DDI understood the plumbing distribution industry."

“Within 24 hours, DDI engineers migrated our inventory and customer data into DDI. The next day we were up and running - eager to maximize the solution’s functionality. DDI’s software has totally automated our operations and decreased the chances of human error. In addition, information is available instantly right from the counter terminals.” Showroom sales staff is quickly alerted to incoming product shipments. “When an order arrives at our warehouse, an email is generated by DDI and sent to the appropriate salesperson,” said Hunt. “We can then alert the customer of the available product.”

Danbury Plumbing enthusiastically takes full advantage of DDI’s customer history database. “When a customer comes into the showroom, regardless if a purchase is made, we enter their information into the system. If a customer does not make a purchase, DDI reminds our showroom staff to make a follow up call.”

Danbury Plumbing has realized impressive ROI with the DDI System's distribution management software.“Without question, the DDI System was responsible for more than doubling our sales numbers by streamlining our business practices and creating sales efficiencies.” “With DDI, our business has been vastly improved with efficiencies in customer service, shipping and revenue monitoring. Our employees can view the same screen with all items entered in one central location — right at their fingertips! DDI truly powers our entire business.”

Johnstone Supply Grows Sales With DDI

With over 400 independent member locations across the country, the Johnstone Supply Cooperative is a leader in the HVAC/R industry. From the first Johnstone Supply store that opened in 1953, founder John Shank aspired to grow his business among other service-focused individuals. The goal: to share resources, operational benefits, and group buying power. Today, Johnstone Supply is a top business cooperative with stores often passed from one generation to the next. Owners are used to personalized service, consistency, and a solid return on investment.

A thriving member of the Johnstone Supply cooperative for over 40 years, Johnstone Supply – Spokane, WA, prides itself on customer service and self-sufficiency. With a branch in Anchorage, AK, the company has seen little turnover in the past four decades, a testament to its ownership and stability.

The Spokane team knew that the shift to a fully-integrated, highly scalable Windows® ERP would be significant. Spokane implemented DDI System’s Inform ERP in November 2015. Since then, the store steadily generates around 3,000 invoices a month. It’s amazing to have all the tools that can be used to help our company grow. Credit manager Barb Redinger had this to say about the DDI implementation,"We find something new everyday that has helped us with our sales team."

KIE Supply Chooses DDI to Power Business Operations

For more than 60 years, KIE Supply has been dedicated to helping customers succeed in all of their irrigation, plumbing, electrical, and lighting projects. Its mission to operate under honest business practices and to provide what customers need, when they need it, has driven company success since 1955.

KIE's Amelia Kittson's vision of where she wanted the company to go in the future meant it needed to move away from its home-grown system. As the marketing director and ERP system transition lead, Kittson said she felt having one person handle everything to do with technology was not sustainable.

DDI System's 100 percent U.S.-based development, implementation and support teams were a strong selling feature for the irrigation, plumbing, electrical, and lighting supplier. Coupled with Inform's superior blend of rich features, trusted the software would strengthen purchasing and warehouse practices, provide even better service to KIE's customers, and offer the mobile technology needed to elevate performance across the board.

To further support their decision, Kittson surveyed her team to identify the most important factors they needed to be successful. "The number one thing everyone required was a system that would be easy to cross train different team members on. As a business owner, I never want to have one person being able to do a job. It's incredibly important to me that we can jump in whenever we need to and the tools we use everyday to run our business be powerful but also intuitive. We definitely got that with DDI's Inform," said Kittson.

In addition, Kittson believes in continuing the drive toward efficiency—which includes transitioning to a paperless operation. "In just the past six months, we've made HUGE strides towards our goal of going paperless. We've eliminated file cabinets, gained space and our staff no longer has to dig through boxes of closed files. We no longer have to keep hard copies of every single invoice and we can view electronic signatures for all our orders using electronic signature capture. Our Sales Manager has been waiting for 20 years for something like that and it just was not something we had the ability to do in our legacy system," she said.

KIE's decision to transform its business with DDI's Inform ERP has allowed KIE Supply to keep up with the shift in buyer behavior and continue to deliver on ever-evolving customer expectations. To learn more, visit the DDI Newsroom.

Greenhill Industrial Supply Achieves Success With DDI

Greenhill Industrial Supply built its business by providing friendly, dependable service to a local customer base in Bronx, NY. Since the 1930’s, Greenhill has evolved into a distributor of hand and power tools, fasteners, hardware and other building and maintenance supplies to contractors, institutions, hospitals and other businesses in the boroughs of New York. 

After Lenny Gamss bought the business in 1987, he began introducing new technologies to help the company operate more efficiently. After several years, he decided they had outgrown the business's home-grown computer system and needed a more sophisticated and comprehensive business solution. Gamss went in search of a software system that would combine their inventory, purchasing, customer and sales history, receivables and other data critical to running a distribution company. He chose DDI System and realized immediate efficiencies and process improvements.

“Our switch to DDI System’s distribution-centric software made us more efficient. Enhanced data management and inventory control, automated credit card processing and improved customer service are just some of the ways technology benefits our company,” said Lenny Gamss. In recent years, Lenny has upgraded his company once again to DDI’s window-based Inform distribution software. Together with his son, Jeff, they are taking advantage of the latest in technology and the integrated innovations that DDI offers on a continued basis.

Shaw Electrical Captures Cost Savings With DDI

Shaw Electrical Supply was using FACTS. It was difficult to navigate and even harder to pull out critical data. They initially considered implementing a larger, more expensive business software such as Eclipse, but determined that the costs of these systems were prohibitive.

Fortunately, DDI's Inform software was a perfect fit in both cost and functionality. The transition from FACTS to DDI's Inform software went smoothly and DDI provided two dedicated employees on site for assistance and training when it went live. By the second day, Shaw employees were up and running on the new system without missing a beat.

DDI's Inform has allowed Shaw to capture significant cost savings by streamlining their basic paperwork flow and eliminating the need to buy and stock preprinted forms. Customers now receive invoices and statements via fax or email, recognizing cost savings in decreased postage and reduced time spent processing. Processes that once took us minutes can now be done in seconds, and processes that once took hours can now be done in a fraction of the time. This has allowed the company to reduce the time staff spends on administrative duties while at the same time offer a higher level of service to their customers, as well as increased data accuracy.

Sikes Paper Captures Significant Cost Savings With DDI

In a world of high speed burnishers and fast-acting disinfectants, the Janitorial and Sanitation industry values anything that saves time and labor. What holds true on the facility floor is equally true in distributor offices and warehouses. The term "speed to market" originated with software companies and referred to getting new products on market shelves as quickly as possible.

For Sikes Paper Company in Atlanta, Ga., its rapid speed to market can be contributed to its implementation of DDI System's Inform software technology. "Our world is all about speed," notes Greg Truitt, vice president and general manager for Sikes Paper Company. "DDI has provided us the technology to literally change our speed to market. That 'Goliath' down the street who is spending millions of dollars, cannot begin to compete with us on our speed and customer responsiveness."

The multi-dimensional features of DDI System's Inform distribution software enables Sikes Paper Company to seamlessly integrate various functions and departments. It delivers speedy solutions for everyone in the company such as the accounts receivable person in the main office, the salesperson working on the road from his car, and the customer service rep in the Dalton branch office.

Hayward Pipe Supply Expands Reach With DDI

Hayward Pipe Supply Company used the same software through two acquisitions. With no feature enhancements in sight, they went looking for a more advanced solution to meet their growing needs. A magazine ad caught the attention of Greg Peddie, president of Hayward Pipe Supply, leading him to contact DDI System. Through demonstrations and discussions, Greg realized that DDI had the industry-specific features they needed plus experience with growing businesses in many other related industries.

DDI System encourages networking between their Inform distribution software users through an online community and conference. “I instantly loved the ‘cross-enhancements’ that DDI’s Inform Software provides. I wanted access to learn how other distributors do business, the tools and techniques they use, then incorporate the best of those ideas into my own operations. Plus, access to DDI’s large user community would provide ongoing ideas for business operations, input for software developments and ‘tips and tricks’ that would help my business in the long run.” Greg continued, “DDI System was the answer with leading technology, forward thinking and personal service."

Tarheel Paper Co. Expands Sales Capacity With DDI System

Tarheel Paper Co. in Winston Salem, NC began as a single location janitorial and packaging distributor. Since 1980, they have grown into three location with over 5,000 products in stock and over 165,000 square feet of warehouse space. Previous software solutions proved difficult for their sales driven organization throughout their growth process as they did not support multiple locations and provide advanced sales tools.

Tarheel Paper went looking for a new solution - choosing DDI’s Inform ERP Software. “The driving force to change was our lack of sales functionality. Inform’s accessibility of information for our outside sales team has been the most significant benefit to our organization” explains Ted Shelton, VP of Operations. Converting to DDI System’s Inform software has resulted in enhanced sales, customer relationship management (CRM), analytics and a meaningful impact on the business' bottom line.

The business' error rate has decreased and the frustration level among the sales team has diminished as they now have the tools to evaluate and increase their sales. The ability to view product margins by customer has increased profitability and minimized margin error rates. DDI’s analytic features provide insight into the strengths and weaknesses of distribution operations. “I really like the way Inform’s business analytic tools work. Pertinent information such as company sales, inventory levels and more are readily available. Drill down reporting allows me to easily review our overall performance levels and ensure we’re on track,” says Ted. Inform’s report writer has also become a staple for Tarheel Paper. User friendly terms allow for quick customization in a visually appealing graphical layout. Finally,   Inform’s Marketing Manager has also generated a positive response from Tarheel’s customer base. Tagging each of their customers with a source code allows their marketing team to email targeted information to specific groups. These emails have resulted in several new clients and increased add-on product sales.

Dutch Hollow Supplies Streamlines Workflow With DDI

Since 1984, Dutch Hollow Supplies has been a one-stop shop for janitorial, packaging, office, and safety supplies in the greater St. Louis, MO area.

Dutch Hollow Supplies took the leap into enterprise resource planning (ERP) incorporating DDI System’s Inform ERP Software into their daily operations when they realized they had outgrown their QuickBooks Enterprise software and the business needed something more to carry them into the future.

Thinking back to when they converted, Eric Cadell, Vice President of Operations at Dutch Hollow Supplies, remembers how accounts receivables and net pay averages decreased by 5 days - almost overnight. The auto watch and credit hold functionality was automated, saving time and highlighting outstanding bills to all team members. This transparency allowed sales and customer service reps to assist and make a notable impact with their customer accounts.

“DDI System is right on target,” says Eric. “Other companies say they have the answers to mobile and tablet trends, ecommerce and remote connectivity but from speaking with other distributors, I can honestly say DDI’s functionality is deeper and better developed. DDI has smart deployment methods that ensure new features are working “out of the box” and keeping up with the needs of wholesale distributors.”

Not only is technology ever changing, but the impact those changes have on customer buying methods and habits is significant. One of the ways Dutch Hollow has been able to keep up with customer expectations is through a fully integrated e-commerce website. “DDI’s Inform eCommerce has been a tremendous advantage for us. The integration within Inform is seamless. It pulls real-time inventory levels, unique customer pricing, customer account data and history. This live connection is a huge benefit! If we make a change in Inform, it’s instantly reflected on our website.”

Dutch Hollow still looks forward to screen updates, new upgrades and whatever technology is coming down the pike. DDI System has been and will remain their long-term technology partner.
